Elizabeth Dempsey Collins and Peter Chapin Fitton were introduced by mutual friends at a party. After the couple had been dating long distance for almost three years, Peter proposed on a secluded beach while the two were on a surf trip at Witch’s Rock in Playa Tamarindo, Costa Rica.

The couple was married by Roman Catholic Deacon Stephen Cote at the Weekapaug Chapel in Westerly, Rhode Island. A reception followed at the 1899 Weekapaug Inn, a traditional, old-fashioned summer resort. The skies were clear, providing a perfect backdrop for guests to enjoy the fireworks display after dinner.

The bride attended the King and Low-Heywood Thomas School in Stamford. She graduated from Bates College and received a master’s degree in interior architecture from Pratt Institute. She was an exhibition designer at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City. Currently she is starting her own interior architecture and design business in the shoreline area. Her parents are Maura M. and Joseph J. Collins of Darien.

The groom is an owner of Opus Inc., a company in New Haven that installs audio, video and automation systems in homes and businesses. His parents are Dana Davison of Essex and D. Geoffrey Fitton of Old Lyme.

The newlyweds took a honeymoon trip to Santa Fe, New Mexico. They live in Guilford.

Sara Elisabeth Harreld and Yin-Hing Michael Lai celebrated their marriage with three ceremonies. The first was a private family ceremony at the request of Mike’s mother, who, in the Chinese tradition, selected the date and time of the most auspicious moment at which to marry.

The second ceremony took place in the gardens of the Ritz Carlton, San Francisco, under a tent swathed in pink organza and strewn with rose petals. One hundred of the couple’s friends and family members traveled from a dozen states and several foreign countries to witness the marriage vows officiated by the Reverend Leah Hauser, a long-time friend of the groom.

The third and final ceremony took place in Hong Kong, where the couple was presented in a traditional Chinese ceremony. The twelve-course banquet marked the official beginning of the couple’s married life.

The daughter of Bruce and Mary Harreld of New Canaan, the bride graduated from the Kent Denver School and Pomona College, where she received a bachelor’s degree in art history and was awarded the Mary Drew Art prize. She completed work for her master’s in fine arts at the San Francisco Art Institute, where the couple met, and currently works for Goorin Hat Company, managing its San Francisco store and handling merchandising for its Los Angeles store.

The son of Fai-Nam Lai and Le-Chen Teng of Hong Kong, the groom is a graduate of Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan and holds a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from Davidson College and a master in fine art degree from the San Francisco Art Institute. He is a photographer and performance artist, with a gallery show scheduled for this summer.

Catharine vanDaalen Winebrenner met Paul Stanley Jacobsen at a wedding in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, over the July Fourth weekend in 2004. Eighteen months later, on an extremely cold December night in Chicago, Paul insisted they watch the Lincoln Park Zoo tree lighting. He warmed things up quickly when he popped the question.

The couple was married by the Reverend David Anderson at St. Luke’s Church in Darien. A reception followed at the Country Club of Darien. Five of the bride’s ten attendants were friends from Darien High School — matron of honor Emily Glassmeyer Grabowski, Katie Reifenheiser Adams, Amy Lopiano Kennedy, Alexa Damon Scoma and Rebecca Tier Soskin.

The bride, known as Catie, is the daughter of David and Elizabeth Winebrenner of Darien. She graduated from Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida, with a bachelor’s degree in sociology and is an account director at DraftFCB, an advertising agency in Chicago, where the couple lives.

The groom is a graduate of the University of Illinois College of Engineering with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. He is a senior technical specialist for the Revere Group, a business and IT consulting firm in Chicago. His parents are Donald and Carol Jacobsen of Elmhurst, Illinois.

The couple took a honeymoon trip to the One and Only Palmilla resort in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
