Morgan Elizabeth Albus and Mark Andrew Mooney met in 2004 when working for the ABC Family Channel in New York City. Mark proposed to Morgan on the anniversary of their first date, after Mass at the Blessed Sacrament Church in Manhattan. A year later at that same church, the couple was married by Father Robert Welsh, a friend of the groom’s family from Cleveland, Ohio.

In keeping with a Manhattan wedding, the bride arrived at the church in a vintage Checker cab. After the ceremony the wedding party posed for photographs with the lights of Times Square and Grand Central Station in the background, then joined the rest of the guests for a reception at the Yale Club.

The bride is a 1999 graduate of New Canaan High School. She received a bachelor’s degree in English from Lafayette College, where she was president of student government her senior year. She is the third generation in her family to graduate from Lafayette, and, like her father in 1968 and her grandfather in 1942, she was elected president of her class, serving in 2003. She is a sales planner for the Discovery Channel. Her parents are Robert E. and Patricia R. Albus of New Canaan.

The groom graduated from New York’s Fordham University with a bachelor’s degree in history. He played center for the football team for all four years. He is an account executive for Turner Sports, a subsidiary of Time Warner. His parents are Lawrence and Rene Mooney of Lyndhurst, Ohio.

After a two-week honeymoon in Costa Rica, the couple returned home to Manhattan’s Upper West Side.

Sarah Anne Lawrence and Peter Goodrich Appel met during their first week at Gettysburg College, where they had both arrived early to play sports. James Bealer, a friend of Sarah’s from Darien High School and Peter’s roommate, introduced the two. “We were immediately drawn to each other’s sense of humor,” recalls the bride. “We would always end up talking and laughing together when we were hanging out in large groups.”

Three years after graduation, Peter proposed while the couple was having dinner at a favorite restaurant. Pastor Samuel Schreiner of Noroton Presbyterian Church married them. The bride’s maid of honor and cousin, Laura Shufelt, and friends Joanna Walker and Reed Deverill, all from Darien, were among her attendants. A reception followed at the Country Club of Darien.

A 1999 graduate of Darien High School, the bride played field hockey all four years and was captain her senior year. In college she played defense in field hockey her freshman year. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sociology and is a recruiter at Strategic Workforce Solutions in New York City. Her parents are Jed and Debbie Lawrence of Darien.

The groom, who was captain of his football, wrestling and lacrosse teams in high school, played defensive end in football and defense in lacrosse his freshman year at Gettysburg. He received a bachelor’s degree in political science and is a resource specialist at Credit Suisse in New York City. His parents are Ken and Laurie Appel of Maplewood, New Jersey.

After a honeymoon at the One and Only Palmilla resort in Los Cabos, Mexico, the couple returned home to Darien.
